Hydraulic Power Recovery Turbines

When liquid moves from a high pressure vessel back to low pressure, a letdown valve throws that energy away. A Shin Nippon Machinery HPRT turns it into shaft power instead.

How an HPRT works

In refineries and petrochemical plants, process streams are pumped into high pressure reactors and later returned to low pressure tanks. An HPRT is built like a pump with the flow reversed: high pressure liquid enters the discharge nozzle, turns the impeller in reverse and leaves through the suction nozzle. The recovered power can help drive a pump, a compressor or a generator.

Send the letdown flow, pressures and fluid data. We estimate the recoverable power.
